CORNERSTONE PROJECT

 

Cornerstone Project raises money for the Nambale Magnet School in Western Kenya. This school educates and houses the poorest of the poor and offers hope and prosperity to its students and its community.

 

Cornerstone Project works closely with Rev. Evalyn Wakhusama, the school's founder, in planning and implementing new programs. Rev. Evalyn is a native Kenyan who came to the U.S. in 1999 to get her master's degree at Yale Divinity School. While still a student at Yale, she began to talk about her vision to return to Kenya and open a school. She wanted to promote self-sufficiency for those in her community living in extreme poverty and impacted by the AIDS pandemic. Every 14 seconds, a child is orphaned in sub-Saharan Africa. Half of these children (1,149,000) are orphaned due to AIDS. Rev. Evalyn envisioned a different future for hundreds of these children.

She garnered support from her friends—a community of women in Connecticut who organized to raise money for the school. This group of women called themselves Cornerstone Project and to date, they have raised nearly $1,000,000 to plan, build, and open the Nambale Magnet School in Kenya. I feel blessed to have worked alongside such a visionary group of women.

Cornerstone Project is 100% volunteer and 98% of the proceeds go directly to the School. This grassroots volunteerism is the best way to ensure that your donation dollars end up in the hands of those in need. We are presently running a Go Fund Me campaign. Nambale Magnet School is nurturing and guiding children through a loving and practical education. Donations would be greatly appreciated!
